Greetings from Columbia, Maryland! Am pre-posting this post today, October 29, in case we loose power or internet service due to Hurricane Sandy. Hope everyone on the East Coast stays safe and just minor damage/flooding occurs. So far, we are experiencing heavy rain and wind gusts. The peak of the storm is suppose to hit us between 6 PM and 2 AM. If all goes as planned this post will appear on my blog at noon tomorrow, Oct. 30.
Now about my card... This fun image is by Doodle Pantry. It's one of the snowmen from the Quirky Snowmen set. I thought this image would be perfect combined with a snow globe. Since I didn't have one, I decided to try making my own. Talk about easy peasy... Here's what I did:
I opened a Word document, inserted a circle for the globe and another shape for the base. After doing some formatting to the shapes, I merged the shapes together, and the snow globe was done. For this snow globe, I also filled the globe and base with Doodle Pantry digi papers by using the fill function. Then I inserted my image and sentiment in front of the background papers.
I wrote a tutorial on how to create a digital snow globe. This tutorial has been posted on Doodle Pantry's blog. If you would like to view the tutorial, click HERE.
After I finished assembling my card, I decided to print just the snow globe (with no image or fill) on a clear transparency. I then cut out just the 'globe" and adhered it to my card. IRL, this step gives the look of glass. However, if you decide to do this step, one word of warning... It's very difficult to take a photo w/o reflection of the overlay. If you decide to add an overlay, I recommend doing this step after photographing your creation.
Thanks for stopping by. Sure hope the sun is shining in your neck of the woods!
UPDATE 10/30 -- I am happy to report that we did not loose power and came through the storm safe and sound. My thoughts and prayers go out to those not as fortunate.
